Candidate Statement for Board of Directors
Thank you for taking the time to read my statement and consider my candidacy for the LifeRing Board of Directors.
I bring a deep understanding of LifeRing’s mission and operations—locally, within regional communities, and across the broader organization. I am committed to helping guide LifeRing into a strong, inclusive, and sustainable future.
I have celebrated continuous sobriety since 2001. Discovering LifeRing in 2012 was a Eureka! moment—LifeRing made sense to me in a way no other recovery support had.
In 2013, I established the first LifeRing meeting in Akron, Ohio. Starting meetings in a community with little prior awareness of LifeRing was challenging but incredibly rewarding. Today, Akron offers four active meetings across in-person, hybrid, online, and private facility formats. This experience continues to shape my broader work within LifeRing.
I understand the challenges of establishing and expanding LifeRing into new areas and am passionate about supporting others who are doing the same. While LifeRing’s visibility has steadily grown, there is still enormous opportunity for expansion.
The past few years have been a transformative time for LifeRing. In-person meetings have returned and continue to expand post-pandemic. Meanwhile, the rapid growth of online meetings has dramatically expanded accessibility, connecting people across geographic and physical barriers. The combination of in-person and online meetings is creating a stronger, more resilient LifeRing community. Throughout this evolution, I have worked actively to expand awareness, support meeting growth, and help make LifeRing more accessible to everyone seeking a secular path to recovery.
To help guide this growth, I chaired the Strategic Planning Committee and helped lead the recent update to our strategic plan, setting clear goals to expand engagement, strengthen operations, and ensure sustainable funding.
My contributions to LifeRing include:
- Board of Directors: Appointed in 2021 to fill a vacancy; elected in 2022 and currently serving
- Executive Committee Member: Participating in leadership and strategic decision-making
- Administrative Team Member: Regular participant in weekly meetings to support day-to-day operations
- Finance Committee Member: Contributing to the financial oversight and sustainability of LifeRing
- Regional Representative Coordinator: Strengthening communication and collaboration among reps
- Frontier Regions Coordinator (since 2018): Promoting outreach and growth in underserved areas
- Regional Representative (since 2015): Supporting new and existing meetings
- International Outreach (since 2015): Assisting with global meeting development and support
If re-elected, I will remain committed to empowering our in-person and online communities, supporting global growth, improving communication between meetings and leadership, enhancing operational efficiency, and ensuring that LifeRing continues to be a beacon of accessibility and support for years to come.
