Candidate Statement for Board of Directors
Thank you for taking the time to read my statement and consider my candidacy for the LifeRing Board of Directors.
I bring a deep understanding of LifeRing’s mission and operations—locally, within regional communities, and across the broader organization. I am committed to helping guide LifeRing into a strong, inclusive, and sustainable future.
I have celebrated continuous sobriety since 2001. Discovering LifeRing in 2012 was a Eureka! moment—LifeRing made sense to me in a way no other recovery support had.
In 2013, I established the first LifeRing meeting in Akron, Ohio. Starting meetings in a community with little prior awareness of LifeRing was challenging but incredibly rewarding. Today, Akron offers four active meetings across in-person, hybrid, online, and private facility formats. This experience continues to shape my broader work within LifeRing.
I understand the challenges of establishing and expanding LifeRing into new areas and am passionate about supporting others who are doing the same. While LifeRing’s visibility has steadily grown, there is still enormous opportunity for expansion.
The past few years have been a transformative time for LifeRing. In-person meetings have returned and continue to expand post-pandemic. Meanwhile, the rapid growth of online meetings has dramatically expanded accessibility, connecting people across geographic and physical barriers. The combination of in-person and online meetings is creating a stronger, more resilient LifeRing community. Throughout this evolution, I have worked actively to expand awareness, support meeting growth, and help make LifeRing more accessible to everyone seeking a secular path to recovery.
To help guide this growth, I chaired the Strategic Planning Committee and helped lead the recent update to our strategic plan, setting clear goals to expand engagement, strengthen operations, and ensure sustainable funding.
My contributions to LifeRing include:
- Board of Directors: Appointed in 2021 to fill a vacancy; elected in 2022 and currently serving
- Executive Committee Member: Participating in leadership and strategic decision-making
- Administrative Team Member: Regular participant in weekly meetings to support day-to-day operations
- Finance Committee Member: Contributing to the financial oversight and sustainability of LifeRing
- Regional Representative Coordinator: Strengthening communication and collaboration among reps
- Frontier Regions Coordinator (since 2018): Promoting outreach and growth in underserved areas
- Regional Representative (since 2015): Supporting new and existing meetings
- International Outreach (since 2015): Assisting with global meeting development and support
If re-elected, I will remain committed to empowering our in-person and online communities, supporting global growth, improving communication between meetings and leadership, enhancing operational efficiency, and ensuring that LifeRing continues to be a beacon of accessibility and support for years to come.

My connection to LifeRing runs deep and has been a cornerstone of my sobriety since November 2007. I live in the Los Angeles area with my husband and fellow LifeRinger, Richard, who I met through the invaluable LSRsafe email group and I can personally attest to the power of our eGroup community. In fact, the LSRsafe group, along with the LifeRing Delphi Forum and the LSR Women’s Empowered email group, have been my primary sources of ongoing recovery support.
My commitment to LifeRing has manifested in various ways over the years. I previously volunteered my time to manage LifeRing's social media presence, a role I've recently returned to with renewed enthusiasm. Furthermore, I have the privilege of serving as the Chair of the Website Committee, where I've gained valuable experience in overseeing our online presence and ensuring it effectively serves our community and reaches those seeking secular recovery. I've also contributed my voice to the LifeRing blog, sharing my experiences and insights. Now, I am eager to further my service by contributing to the governing body and actively participating in the Fundraising, Marketing, and Communication Committee.
Having been appointed to the LifeRing Board in December 2022 and subsequently elected in 2023, I bring existing board experience and a strong understanding of the organization's mission and operations. As my current term concludes in 2025, I am seeking re-election to continue contributing my passion and dedication to the growth and sustainability of LifeRing. My experience as Chair of the Website Committee has provided me with unique insights into our outreach efforts and the vital role our online platform plays in supporting individuals on their recovery journey.
Outside of my involvement with LifeRing, I enjoy writing and the creative outlet of paper crafting. While these pursuits bring me joy, my true passion lies in supporting the LifeRing community and ensuring that others find the same robust and secular path to recovery that I have. I am eager to bring my experience, dedication, and understanding of our diverse community to the Board of Directors and help LifeRing continue to thrive.

Fifty-four months ago, I attended my first LifeRing meeting and knew immediately that this was the change I had been seeking. At the time, COVID-19 was in full force, and meaningful social interaction felt out of reach. Searching for support online was daunting, but after that first meeting, I knew I had found my tribe.
The first 15 months of my sobriety journey came with many challenges. Still, I never felt alone; I had a community that didn’t judge me during my most difficult moments.
After reaching six months of sobriety, I started my first meeting, Case of the Mondays, which I continue to convene to this day. It has become a vital part of my own recovery and a space where others can share, grow, and support one another.
I’m running for the Board of Directors because I want to bring my enthusiasm, creativity, and firsthand experience to help LifeRing grow. I’m passionate about introducing the LifeRing philosophy to recovery groups and treatment centers that may only be familiar with traditional paths. Through outreach—both on social media and in-person visits to rehabilitation facilities, I believe we can expand awareness and help others realize they can build their own recovery path, on their own terms.

Joined LifeRing in January of 2023
After 45 years of substance misuse, I completed 30 days of inpatient rehab in January of 2023 and found my way into a Wednesday evening online LifeRing meeting. I knew immediately that I had found the community I needed to support my commitment to recovery. Six months or so later, I was honored to be asked to convene that same meeting and spent a year thoroughly enjoying that. I have been enormously grateful to participate in LifeRing.
I am running for the Board of Directors in order to step into a fuller role as a volunteer and to be active in supporting LifeRing’s growth. I have served on several non-profit boards over the years. In my professional life, I am a consultant frequently supporting both Boards of Directors and Executive Teams in strategic alignment, succession planning, talent development, and organization design. I would be honored to bring that experience to the LifeRing Board of Directors.
